Hi, and thank you for dropping in

Tuesday, January 05, 2010

Hi, and thank you for dropping in.  I wish I could offer you a cuppa, or a glass of wine, to help you enjoy your visit, but hopefully you’ll spend a pleasant few minutes looking around my site any.

So what’s coming up?

The regular paperback for Lost Innocence is due out in March 2010.

The Choice is now out in large format paperback.     This is probably one of the most difficult, and yet – I hope – moving books I’ve written.  It received a fantastically enthusiastic response from my editors when I first sent it in, which was an enormous relief, I can tell you!  Whilst writing it, I really wasn’t sure how right – or wrong – I was getting it.  Here is an extract from Susan Sandon’s first response:

"Wow Susan: what a fabulous, heart rending, brilliantly written novel!  I loved it.  Finished late last night and was reeling.  I really do take my hat off to you.  Such great characters (Nikki in particular of course) and so realistic (if you know what I mean).  You must have done huge amounts of research both on the medical side and on the legal side.  And – don’t take offence – anyone reading this just wouldn’t believe that you hadn’t also been pregnant, had a child etc etc etc.  I really think it’s superb."

Just One More Day - Wild Child

For all those who sent emails asking what happened to Eddie (my father) after my mother died, I can tell you that the follow up book Wild Child is now complete, but has yet to be edited and slotted into a publishing schedule.  As soon as I have more news on that front I'll be sure to post it on this site.

What am I working on now?

At the time of posting this (5.1.10) I've just finished my latest book, yet to be titled, which grapples with one of the most dreaded of human conditions - dementia.    It is probably best described as a romantic, passionate and tragic love story about two people who will do anything to hold onto their relationship, even when life itself is pitching all its efforts again them.  An emotional roller coaster, that's for sure!

And now for what’s new on the personal front:
I am now installed in my new home in Gloucestershire and as I write, I feel as though I've landed in a Christmas card.  It's snowing hard and the landscape stretching from my windows is exquisite.  Coco and Lulabelle are all tucked up in their doggie armchair, and James is fighting his way home from a hard day in the world of TV production.
